.NET Engineer
CA - Santa Ana
Opportunity Snapshot
If you are a hard-core developer with a desire for variety, our agile environment offers the "best of both worlds": the feel and opportunity of a start-up with the stability and resources of an established company. You will touch many different technologies and work on a variety of projects that will ensure the accuracy of healthcare data and transform that data into statistical models that will help fight Medicaid fraud at the national level and enable the recovery of literally billions of dollars back to the Federal government.
We're cultivating a strong development team, so you'll learn on an ongoing basis from your seasoned peers. In addition, you'll be primed to open new doors of opportunity for your career as HMS is on the fast track to growth, meaning that small companies and state governments simply can't compete with the resources, compensation and career path that we can offer.
Since 1985 HMS has focused exclusively on the healthcare industry; we have partnered with more than 45 Medicaid agencies, other state health programs, and more than 50 government-sponsored healthcare plans to help them recover billions of dollars, and save billions more through cost avoidance. The driving force behind our success is our employees -- knowledgeable, innovative, and results-oriented professionals who provide unparalleled customer service.
The Essentials
As .NET Engineer, your mission is to build solutions leveraging .NET Framework technologies. You'll be a key player of a small development team that is tasked with building out next generation products.
To be a good fit for this opportunity you will need:
- A Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering or a related field; we also will consider non-degreed candidates with significant, relevant experience.
- 4+ years of solid development experience on Windows platforms (web and Windows applications).

- Experience with XML/XSL/XSD and regular expression.
- Outstanding communication skills and a proven ability to interact effectively with people at all levels of the organization.
- Excellent problem solving skills and strong attention to detail.
Preferred, but not required:
- Experience with .Net 3.0 or higher.
- Experience with EDI X12.
- Familiarity with Team Foundation Server/Visual Studio 2010.
- Familiarity with Agile development.
- SharePoint experience, as well as familiarity with Biz Talk is a plus.
What's in It for You
Broad exposure - while we are growing, we're still relatively small (the Dev Team has about 10 members) and we all wear a lot of hats. You will focus on specific areas, but there are no silos. You may finish a user-facing application today and start on a back-end tool tomorrow. In addition, you'll interact with diverse business owners throughout HMS; we run flat, so that includes senior executives.
Autonomy and support -- we'll look to you to achieve your goals with minimal supervision, but the Development team has a strong sense of collaboration and a do-what-it-takes work ethic. We get our orders from the business owners, but it's up to us to come up with innovative solutions. We believe everyone has the right to voice their opinion and we foster a democratic decision-making process where you'll get to manage upwards and downwards in different situations.
Professional development -- everyone contributes to a variety challenges. We're software agnostic, choosing the right tool for the job, so we all learn from each other on an ongoing basis. One constant is that the pace is fast.
Work hard, play hard culture -- we're passionate about what we do and work long hours but, at the same time, we have a lot of fun together during and outside of work.
Career advancement -- we're hiring now with an eye on the future, looking for impact players who can grow with us. You will be well positioned to evolve your career along multiple directions, depending on your ambition and aptitude.
Excellent compensation -- in addition to a competitive salary and bonus potential, we offer a comprehensive benefits package that includes a 401(k) plan with generous employer match, flexible spending plans, and much more.
Keys to Success
Your knowledge of design patterns, object oriented programming and link technologies will be critical to your success here. But you'll also need the emotional intelligence to work across diverse stakeholders and personalities with varying levels of technical sophistication across the organization. You'll showcase a collaborative approach to driving consensus among people who may have conflicting views. We'll also look to you to remain willing to "wear multiple hats" in our lean, agile environment. And finally, you'll take your work seriously, but not yourself as you keep a sense of humor handy and inject levity in stressful situations.
If this sounds like the right mix of challenge and opportunity for you, and you meet the minimum qualifications, we want to hear from you!
