Director: State Government Relations - East
DC - Washington
The Director of State Government Relations East is responsible for protecting and growing HMS business through strategic counsel, advocacy, profile raising, and legislative monitoring. Working closely with account management teams, and the broader state and federal government relations teams, this person will manage and direct lobbying efforts across Eastern states.
Duties:

Directs and manages State Government Relations activities, primarily focused on Eastern States

Manages lobbying agenda of approximately 20 State lobbyists

Responsible for hiring, training, and monitoring of state lobbyists

Works closely with Government Services and Commercial Markets account management teams to identify and respond to opportunities and threats

Monitor, analyze, and report impact of federal and state health policy on our clients and business

Prepare collateral and support materials such as policy papers, testimony, presentations, and advocacy memos

Build brand awareness and develop relationships with stakeholders through advocacy & lobbying efforts, conference participation, and fundraiser attendance
-
Monitor bills in state legislatures; alerting and analyzing bills of interest, determining impact on business and clients, and communicating to internal and external stakeholders

Work with Federal and State Government Relations teams to coordinate activities across states and between state and federal governments

Assist in the administration of the federal PAC, lobbyist reporting & registrations, and internal reports on Government Relations efforts
This position requires a BA (concentration in business, political science, or public policy preferred), MBA, MPP, MPH, or JD strongly preferred, and 5+ years relevant government relations work experience, preferably in healthcare. Superior communication, networking, interpersonal, and presentation skills a must.Willingness to travel required (approximately 50%-75%).
